Summary: | Indonesia's solid waste problem is a complex matter to be resolved, including the waste
management which is still not up to standard. Landfill plays an important role in waste
management but there are also bad effects that can be caused by this activity, one of
which is leachate. One of the pollutants in leachate that is dangerous is cadmium, both
for the environment and humans. This research takes the study area of Supit Urang
landfill, Malang City, which is surrounded by residence with less than 500 meters. The
minimum distance between TPA and residence according to SNI 19-2425-2002 is 500
meters, while according to the Minister of Public Works No. 3/2013 is 1 km Minister
of Public Works Regulation No. 3/2013 states that a controlled landfill must use a liner
with a thickness of 2 x 30 cm to minimize contamination due to leachate. This study
predicts the pollution of cadmium around the Supit Urang landfill in the future and the
maximum concentration of cadmium that can be transmitted so that the pollution is not
too heavy, as well as identification of the importance of the liner in the landfill
construction. Prediction is done through modelling using Visual MODFLOW software
with scenarios that the liner working normally (as actual conditions) and scenarios if
there is a failure in the liner. The model results show that heavy pollution will occur
when the liner broken, especially when the transmitted cadmium concentration reaches
4.32 mg/L or more. From these results, it was also identified the impact of the pollution
and designed a pollution control proposal by complying with the requirements for the
use of a clay liner which is effective in reducing pollution 86-89% and doing leachate
processing following the alternative in the Minister of Public Works Regulation No.
