Description
Summary:Plywood is one of the wood derivative products with high demand. Sengon wood (Falcataria moluccana) as a fast-growing wood is widely used as plywood raw material. However, the high demand is not proportional to the available raw material supply, thus requiring a substitute material to replace wood. Plywood, especially for building materials originating from low durable classes such as sengon, needs to be handled to maintain its durability and resistance from organisms such as drywood termites (Cryptotermes cynocephalus L.). In addition, plywood as a building material must have good sound damping characteristics. Therefore, mixing Biflex 25 EC preservative into the adhesive is a way to preserve plywood. This study aims to determine the concentration of addition of Biflex 25 EC on the best hybrid plywood for durability and acoustic characteristics. The concentration variations of Biflex 25 EC used were A (2.5 mL/L), B (5 mL/L), and C (6.25 mL/L) which were mixed into PF resin which was then glued on sengon veneer. The laminated veneer was arranged with woen matt coconut fiber and cold pressed for 20 minutes, then hot pressed for 10 minutes at a temperature of 150oC with a pressure of 20 N/mm2 to finally become hybrid plywood. The tests carried out were resistance to drywood termites and acoustic characteristics. The addition of Biflex 25 EC 6.25 mL/L treatment provided the best resistance to drywood termites and Biflex 25 EC 2.5 mL/L treatment provided the best sound damping capability.
