Description
Summary:Garlic (Allium sativum L.), roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.), celery (Apium graveolens L.), coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.), and turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) are plants that grow in Indonesia and widely used as traditional medicine passed down from generation to generation as a treatment for certain diseases. This literature review aims to inventory pharmacological effects of garlic, roselle, celery, coriander, and turmeric toward several diseases with a high death count in Indonesia and determining the active compound. This literature review may offer information for future researchers or toward the people experiencing the death-causing disease. The literature review was carried out by searching using the pubmed search engine and applying inclusion criteria. We obtained 28 journals on garlic (Allium sativum L.), 19 journals on hibiscus (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.), 23 journals on celery (Apium graveolens L.), 18 journals on coriander (Coriandrum sativum L.) and 28 journals on turmeric (Curcuma longa L.). The five plants have several pharmacological effects on some of the leading causes of death in Indonesia, such as hypertension, diabetes mellitus, tuberculosis, liver disease, nephrotoxicity, myocardial infarction, and dyslipidemia.
