INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/61708 Background: Research on the physiological characteristics of football athletes using portable metabolic devices in Indonesia is still limited. This study uses the Cosmed Wearable Metabolic System K5 tool which aims to assess the physiological characteristics of women soccer athletes when testing the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test, from the results of the data it will be compared with testing the Small Side Game training method. and use the data to plan appropriate training design methods according to the required training program. Methods: overall, 9 women elite soccer athletes from the West Java team who are currently focusing their training in preparation for the National Sports Week (PON XX) in Papua. 9 athletes were recruited to be subjects. All participants completed 3 testing sessions. The first session to measure anthropometry and the level of running speed. The second session measured the athlete's VO2max level with the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test Level 2 protocol, and the third session the athlete did the exercise using the Small Side Game method with the number of players 3 v 3 plus the presence of two goalkeepers, with a field size of 20 x 30 meters and a time for 4 x 4 minutes with breaks from each session of 2 minutes. During the second and third sessions, testing was carried out using the Kosmed K5 portable metabolic device. Results: 9 times the Small Side Game exercises were analyzed. The results of the variables of Heart Rate, VO2, and Calories needed during the Small Side Game exercise are close to the Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test. however, the independent t-test showed the results of blood lactic acid levels revealed a significant difference between the Yo- Yo Intermittent Recovery Test and Small Side Game (p = 0.004). Conclusion: the results obtained from the heart rate response > 95% of the maximum heart rate, so the Small Side Game exercise is an effective exercise to improve cardiorespiratory fitness. The field used is said to be optimal because it imposes high physical demands on players and maintains a high frequency of technical Actions as well. So that during the Small Side Game practice, they can improve their physical and technical abilities to play. text
