KAJIAN PUSTAKA POTENSI ALKALOID YANG BERASAL DARI TUMBUHAN SEBAGAI ANTIDIABETES

Blood glucose level is a critical parameter on the individual with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) diagnosed which must be controlled enough to avoid complications. Several conventional drugs directly inhibits enzymes - -amylase, and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-IV) inhibitors. Those drugs have be...

Several conventional drugs directly inhibits enzymes - -amylase, and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-IV) inhibitors. Those drugs have been used as standards to control blood glucose. However, those conventional drugs still have an undesired side effects, so this work aimed to study alkaloid potential as an antidiabetic agent ma - -amylase, and DPP-IV inhibition. Alkaloids are a natural-occurring heterocyclic ring compounds that has nitrogen atom on their ring or sidechain which can be derived from natural sources such as plants. This review set out to investigate 103 alkaloids from 18 plants family which have antidiabetic activity based on in vitro, in vivo, or in silico studies. Different search engines such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct were searched together. Heterocyclic alkaloids (indole, isoquinoline, aristolactam, acridone, azafluorenone, piperidine, pyrrolidine, cyclopeptide, terpenoid, quinazolinone, and polyhydroxylated alkaloids) and non-heterocyclic alkaloids showed potential activity as an antidiabetic agents. The present work concluded that alkaloids derived from plants could be developed as an antidiabetic agents mainly through inhibition of -glucosidase and -amylase. text
