Summary: | The basement rock is an igneous or metamorphic rock that is overlain by sedimentary rock. The basement rock has a magnetic properties so it is called the magnetic basement. Implementation of basement modeling can be used for geothermal exploration, especially in Indonesia. In Lainea, Southeast Sulawesi, there is a geothermal potential. Several studies have been conducted to support the utilization of geothermal potential. Even so, no research has been found regarding the basement model in Lainea. In this research, magnetic basement modeling was carried out to enrich the study of Lainea. The modelling was generated by the inversion of the total magnetic anomaly using MagB_inv. This program is a MATLAB-based that includes a graphical user interface (GUI) for estimating the magnetic basement reliefs. To find out the program’s limitations and accuracy, we also conducted an inversion test for MagB_inv. The result of the inversion test concluded that this program depends on several parameters such as the estimation of anomaly depth, length of area, high-cut filter, magnetization contrast, and windowing. Meanwhile, the results of inverse modelling in Lainea and the integration of the previous studies concluded that the magnetic basement of Lainea is an ophiolite resulting from the expansion of the Pacific Ocean that consist of a mafic – ultramafic rock. The relief of magnetic basement shows a syncline structure at 920 – 1200 meters below the surface and underlying a metamorphic rock which is a part of the reservoir rock in the Lainea geothermal system. |
