RE-DESIGN ALUN-ALUN BREBES WITH PLACEMAKING CONCEPT

Public open space is an element of the city that is considered capable of regulating the environment and quality of life of people in urban areas. However, currently there is a lot of decline in the quality of the function of public open space, resulting in a decrease in the quality of the surrounding urban space. One of the public open spaces in urban areas is called Alun-alun. Alun-alun is a public open space that has social, cultural, environmental and economic values. Alun-alun Brebes, Brebes Regency, Central Java Province is one of the most visited squares but has complex problems because its location is on Jalan Pantura which is designated as a Strategic Area in economic importance. The diversity of activities that arise causes problems related to the damage to existing facilities without being accompanied by maintenance or restoration of some of the damaged facilities. Poor control of street vendors also affects the aesthetic value of Alun-alun Brebes. The parking that is mixed with the stalls of street vendors often obstructs the road so that traffic jams often occur in the vicinity. Therefore, restoration is needed by redesigning the Brebes Square. The design method used in this analysis is a fragmental method with the concept of placemaking city design. This concept is considered to have a relevant assessment to find a place because it uses an approach that refers to the elements of good place, which are access & linkage, comfort & image, using & activity, and sociability
