The collection time reaches seven (7) days while the ideal is zero (0) day. This issue becomes important because it brings an opportunity cost to the company, which comes from lost sales due to unavailable stock and future customer complaints. The question is how to make a real time response possible. Two aspects related to batch number data collection process are traceability and operation process. Interview, data survey, document study, and process simulation are used to find root causes. Analysis lead to the findings of root causes and potential improvement. Three (3) root causes are limited operators, limited storage capacity, and no supporting tools and system for automatic process. Three (3) business solution alternatives are proposed and analyzed. First is to improve traceability system by redesigning the process (A). Second is to implement Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) Technology (B). Third is to provide sufficient resources, especially operators and storage capacity (C). Decision making uses Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The result is 43.00% for alternative A as the best alternative. This study concludes that preparation and identification are the significant processes, while operators, storage capacity, tools and system are the significant variables. Dealing with one or more of these processes and variables are proved to be effective in reduction of batch number data collection time. Implementation plan for the chosen alternative will include redesigning the process and information system, pilot project, and scale up project. text |
