Summary: | Betung bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper) is a bamboo that has a large diameter and is widely used for building construction materials. One alternative for propagation of bamboo betung is through branch cuttings with advantages in ease of handling and ideal for thick-walled bamboo species. Propagation of branch cuttings requires growth regulators (ZPT) to stimulate shoot and root growth. The use of liquid smoke is considered to have potential in growing shoots and roots of plants. This study aims to determine the effect of liquid smoke on shoots and roots of bamboo betung branch cuttings, determine the optimal dose of liquid smoke and immersion time of liquid smoke to stimulate shoots and roots of bamboo betung branch cuttings. The research was carried out in stages, namely the preliminary research stage was carried out to find the right treatment and continued with the main research. The location of the research was carried out in the Gunung Geulis farmer group nursery, Jatiroke Village, Jatinangor, Sumedang. The research design used a completely randomized design. The treatments used in the preliminary study were liquid smoke doses of 0 ppm, 1000 ppm, 2000 ppm, 3000 ppm, 4000 ppm, and 5000 ppm and immersion time of 15 minutes, 30 minutes and 45 minutes. The results of the preliminary study showed that the highest average percentage of life (40%) was obtained from the 15 minute liquid smoke immersion treatment with a dose of liquid smoke that could be used to stimulate shoots and roots, namely 1000 ppm, 2000 ppm, 3000 ppm, 4000 ppm. These results are used as a reference for the main research treatment. The application of liquid smoke affected the parameters of the number of shoots, shoot length, number of roots, and root dry weight but had no effect on the percentage of cuttings life and root length. Giving liquid smoke dose of 4000 ppm with immersion time for 15 minutes gave a better effect than other treatments. This treatment was able to stimulate the growth of the number of shoots (3.4 each shoots), shoot length (6.4 cm), number of roots (6 roots) and dry weight shoots (1.9 grams). |
