Description
Summary:Bamboo is a common commodity in the archipelago of Indonesia. Its wide range of use is its virtuous quality. From consuming it on the dinner table to the more cost-efficient alternative for construction, bamboo is valued. String bamboo is a bamboo species available within the islands, widely used for furniture and handicrafts. Due to its nature, bamboo mechanical properties also vary, between species, within the species, and even from different sections of the bamboo itself. This research will model numerically with the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) the testing of shear strength properties of a String bamboo, using the standardized method of ISO 22157:2019. The standard is sponsored by the International Bamboo and Rattan Organisation, or INBAR for short. The load applied is quasi-static, and the simulation uses implicit calculation. The result of force – displacement curve from the simulation is compared to experimental results obtained as a predecessor to this research. From the force – displacement curve, ultimate force and shear strength of String bamboo numerical model is obtained. The ultimate force value is 27.1 kN and the shear strength amounts to 5.9 MPa.
