Description
Summary:The development of air transportation especially commercial flight related to increasing of fuel consumption of a jet fuel. The use of a fossil based jet fuel has an environmental issues because of the emission from the fuel combustion. One of the emission is CO2 that has a potential to make a green house effect. Therefore, alternative solution is needed to replacing a fossil fuel and one of the alternative is biofuel. Palm oil is the most suitable feedstock to be used as a biofuel in Indonesia. This biofuel is processed with Co-processing method. This research has a purpose to analyze whether J2.4(2,4% bioavtur mixture) fuel can be used as an alternative to replace Jet A-1(avtur) from a performance perspective. The experiment runs using turbofan CFM56-3 engine in GMF Aeroasia, Tangerang. Each experiment is done with 6 different fan speed to know the trend from the performance and found whether there is a phenomenon in the experiment data. The result from this experiment is showing that J2.4 fuel is passed an engine operational standard for test cell based on CFM Standards and showing a close performance result compared to Jet A-1. The result of using J2.4 on TSFC is (0,398-0,406)lb/lbf.hr , thermal efficiency (23,85-31,19)% , and EGT (672,8-813,7)0C . While using Jet A-1, the result of TSFC is 0,399-0,408)lb/lbf.hr , thermal efficiency (23,95-31,26)% and EGT (673,2-811)0C.
