Summary: | Bandung city has a quite a lot of public space available throughout the city but not
all public spaces in the city of Bandung are in good condition. On the other hand,
the availiable spaces are limited. Cases on the public zone’s need also happened on
Bandung’s corridor, to be precisely at Alkateri Street-Suniaraja Street. Alkateri
Street-Suniaraja Street located on the centre of bussiness district in Bandung also
has many problems caused by varieties of activities happened on the corridor, which
was not accomodated well, not only informal activities like PKL(Pedagang Kaki
Lima)/street vendors, until ilegal parking on the pedestrian way also lessens the
public space quality and pedestrian mobility. The implementation of Shared Space
conceps upon this case is the neccessary measurement to solve every problems at
Alkateri Street-Suniaraja Street. The purpose of this thesis is to make a design that is
considered capable of improving both the quality of space and the quality of life of
the local community..
This design is done by using the Fragmental Process method. Qualitative approach
used for data collection method. The on site surveys dictates that Alkateri StreetSuniaraja Street corridor was not pedestrian-friendly, ironically, this corridor is
also one of the Bandung’s Heritage site. Their status as Bandung’s Heritage site
could acted as one of the potential of the corridor. To answer all the problems and
improve the potential that exists on Alkateri Street-Suniaraja Street, the design is
carried out by providing a decent and pedestrian-friendly space through the concept
of Shared Space which aims to improve the quality of space and the quality of life of
the people. The implementation of Shared Space on Jalan Alkateri-Jalan Suniaraja
will solve problems related to road surface repair, adding street furniture to
facilitate user needs, controlling street vendors and parking activities, as well as
providing corridors that are friendly to users with special needs. Improvements
made to several elements of the corridor as well as the addition of facilities can
solve some of the problems that occur on Jalan Alkateri-Jalan Suniaraja, which will
directly improve the safety, comfort, quality of space and quality of life of the local
community.
