KPC manages a mining area of 84,938 hectares. Supported by more than 4,199 employees and more than 21,000 personnel from contractors and associated companies, KPC’s coal production capacity reaches 70 million tonnes per year. There are three major mining contracts operated by KPC under the supervision of the Contract Mining Division (CMD). Based on the history of the last 10 years and the Long Term Mine Plan beyond 2021, more than 50% of overburden removal and coal mine production are and will be carried out by mining contractors. Mature and excellent contract and contractor management is needed by CMD to ensure KPC total production targets can be achieved without significant obstacles. Therefore, a measurement is needed to determine the current maturity level of CMD in managing mining contracts and contractors. The thesis aims to identify the type of current and future mining contracts based on complexity by conducting a value and risk analysis, determining the desired maturity level of mining contract lifecycle management within the organizat ion based on the results of the value and risk analysis, conducting a maturity assessment by surveying mining contract lifecycle management personnel to find out the current level, and developing a plan to reduce the gap between current and desired maturity level using cause and effect analysis. The thesis identified 37 potential solutions derived from cause and effect analysis which, prioritized based on impact-effort analysis, are recommended for implementation as quick wins and major projects and grouped into four areas of improvement: organization, processes, people, and information and technology. text
