Description
Summary:Smoking had been one of factor that can lead to decrease health status. The impact of cigarette on health status has been published in many literatures. As indicated on each pack of cigarettes, smoking can cause cancer, heart attacks, impotence, and pregnancy and fetal disorders. The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation of smoker status to health status and to analyze aspartame in cigarette filter. Data was collected from Medical Check Up of 204 employee (29,4% smoker employee and 70,6% non smoker) of plant fertilizer company, questionnaires were distributed to smoker employees, and data analysis from laboratory to analyze aspartame in cigarette filter. Result showed that correlation between smoker status and decreasing the health status of employees was not related to the decline of vital capacity, the increased of ALT levels, and blood pressure because it gave p-value > 0,05. However, smoker status related to the changes of lipoprotein levels. Level of HDL cholesterol decreased and showed the p-value of 0,01. 43 smoker employee out of 60 smoker employee showed that 9,3% smoker employee didn’t know that smoking cigarette may decrease health status and 88,4% smoker employee have ever think not to use cigarette. Meanwhile, determination of aspartame in cigarette filter was carried out by means of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) technique applying standard addition methods under following optimum conditions: ODS RP column 250 mm x 4 mm, UV detector at 210 nm, a mixture of 0,02 M phosphate buffer pH 5 –methanol (65:35) with the flow rate of 1 mL/min, and column temperature of 28 o C. Under these conditions, the system suitability criteria parameters were as follow: resolution factor (Rs) = 4,675; tailing factor (?) = 0,730; selectivity factor (?) = 2,338; and recurrence of injection (KV) = 2,240%. The method gave a calibration curve of y = 47,980x –7,222 with r = 0,999, regression coefficient variance of 2,240%, limit of detection (LOD) of 1,801 ppm, and limit of quantification (LOQ) of 4,537 ppm. Result showed that cigarette filters in all three samples positive contained aspartame with each concentration were 762,328 mg/kg; 644,210 mg/kg; and 1691,275 mg/kg. Smoker status may cause the decrease of health status by lowering levels of HDL level of plant fertilizer company employees and three samples in cigarette filters positive contained aspartame with each concentration were 762,328 mg/kg; 644,210 mg/kg; and 1691,275 mg/kg.
