Cases of above-knee amputation are very common among YKDM customers. The customer uses the prosthetic leg as a mobility aid. Moreover, the socket fittings of the transfemoral amputee need to be done more frequently than the transtibial amputee ones. In addition, there are many complaints related to skin irritation and sores in the stump when using a prosthestic leg. Therefore, it is necessary to repair the above-knee prosthetic design, especially in the socket. Evaluation of the existing socket was carried out using the Socket Comfort Score (SCS) questionnaire and the Questionnaire to Explore Human Factors and Their Technical Potential for Lower Limb Prosthetics (QEHFT). Based on the evaluation results, there is still potential to improve the socket design. Improvements to the socket were accomplished using design thinking. This is because socket development is a “wicked and complex problem”. Design thinking facilitates product development that focused on user needs. The stages in design thinking are empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test. In this research, a solution is obtained in the form of a socket design whose size can be adjusted practically. Size adjustment is very important to be able to prevent sores. In addition, there are other features such as ventilation for air circulation in the socket to avoid skin irritation. The solution concept is validated by using a subjective approach, namely feedback by users. User feedback has shown positive results along with some suggestions for design improvements. Based on this validation, a better socket design was obtained than the existing socket design. text |
