Summary: | Recent natural disasters are believed to have a close relationship with the climate crisis. Utilizing renewable energy sources is one of the Indonesian government efforts to solve the crisis. The government targets the portion of renewable energy as a primary energy source to 23% in the national energy mix by 2025. On the other hand, the use of electrical energy is also not evenly distributed throughout Indonesia. Microgrids with electricity generation from renewable energy are the solution to both problems.
The Karampuang Island microgrid is one of the isolated microgrids in Indonesia. It consists of four separate microgrids with a PV plant and BESS. In this study, two schemes for developing the Karampuang microgrid were analyzed. The first scheme is that the microgrid in Karampuang only consists of one PV plant and one BESS. The size of PV plant and BESS in this scheme is the total capacity of the four distributed PV plants and BESS in their current condition. The second scheme is a microgrid consisting of four PV plants whose location and capacity are in accordance with current conditions and one BESS.
The reliability and power quality of both schemes are calculated and simulated and then compared. The reliability of the microgrid was analyzed by calculating the LOLE and LOEE of each scheme. The power quality of the microgrid was analyzed by simulation on Matlab / Simulink by looking at the THD and overvoltage due to three-phase-ground faults. From the calculation, it was found that the microgrid with a single PV plant scheme is have better reliability indeces. However, the microgrid with four distributed PV plants in the case study of Karampuang Island has a better power quality index. Considering several factors, microgrid with single solar PV plant is recommended to be applied in Karampuan island. |
