Summary: | Curug Jompong is a cascade rapids of Citarum River, geographically located in Nanjung Village, Margaasih District, Bandung Regency, West Java. During the reign of Dutch in Indonesia, Curug Jompong was a favorite tourist destination for the citizens of Bandung, contrary to its current state of neglect. This study aims to discuss the geological conditions and geotourism potential of Curug Jompong to justify its feasibility as a geosite. Methods used in this research are literature study and field review.
In assessing the geotourism potential of Curug Jompong, two main references are used, Kotak Geowisata with qualitative review and Peraturan Menteri Energi dan Sumber Daya Mineral Republik Indonesia Nomor 1 Tahun 2020 about Geoheritage Determination with qualitative and quantitative review. Curug Jompong has a unique geological condition, formed by the obstruction of the Miocene dacite-andesite intrusion rock and has a river landscape. Curug Jompong classified as prominent geodiversity and has high value, also is included in the geoheritage group with a national rating. In the quantitative assessment, Curug Jompong has a total score of 326.25 and categorized as good.
In this research, a geotourism track is made in the area of Curug Jompong with eight observation points. Geotourism naration focused on the history and geodiversity in the area of Curug Jompong including its role in education and tourism sector’s development. Through the development of geotourism, it is hoped that public awareness in the importance of Curug Jompong and the hygiene factor of Citarum River can increase.
