Description
Summary:Academic stress is a significant problem for students because they must face academic, social, and personal challenges at their age. As one of the top universities in Indonesia, ITB can't be separated from the phenomenon of their undergraduate students' experiencing academic stress. In this research, the author focused on finding the impacts of academic stress towards students' academic performance in terms of GPA. In-depth interviews and focus group discussions are conducted to see which academic stress factors they felt, what kind of stress they felt, and how these stress factors affect their academic performance. The samples were 12 students from each faculty in ITB batch 2018 who were chosen selectively. In this context, they are experiencing high stress levels in their third year. After the data has been gathered, qualitatively coded, themed, and analyzed, the researcher found that the students' academic stress factors are academic workload, high competitiveness environment, online school, time management, and parents' expectations. The most impactful factor is academic workload which is considered harmful for students. However, this academic stress brings two impacts, among others, positive and negative impacts. Academic stress has proven to impact students' academic performance positively. But the researcher also found that academic stress also harms students' mental health.
