Summary: | This research discussed the performance of structural system of earthquake
load resistance in the form of reinforced concrete shear wall system
connected to steel coupling beams and replaceable link beams. The concept
is similar with Eccentrically Braced Frame (EBF) structure, link beam is
designed to yield while the other elements: shear walls, beams, columns and
joints remain in an elastic condition.
Experimental studies were carried out on the sub-assemblage using halfscale
with cyclic loading following the provision according to AISC 341-
16. The test results on the three link beam specimens showed that only link
beam experienced fatigue while shear wall, coupling beam and connection
remained in an elastic condition. The results of the study show that the link
could achieve a total rotation of 0.124 rad and a plastic rotation of 0.116 rad,
without causing yielding of other elements.
The experiment also showed that replacing of link beam element can be
done easily (replaceable). The results showed that the use of a replaceable
link beam can be applied to the core system as a connector of coupling beam
and works as earthquake energy dissipation. |
