Description
Summary:Sense of place is a local power of a place that can lead humans to experience when they are in a certain space through physical abilities and sensory abilities. Identification of sense of place is very important to be used as a basis for strengthening the character of the region. Nagari Koto Baru is an area that still maintains traditional settlements, Minangkabau customs and habits. Due to the times, it is feared that this area will lose its identity as a traditional area. The quality of the existing traditional areas owned by Nagari Koto Baru must be maintained or preserved. Every aspect that gives uniqueness or authenticity to Nagari Koto Baru must be strengthened and clarified, namely by examining the components that make up the sense of place. So far, conservation programs and studies on Nagari Koto Baru have only focused on physical forms, especially the Rumah Gadang, there has been no program or study on Nagari Koto Baru that discusses the sense of place owned by Nagari Koto Baru, so the purpose of this research is to identify components that makeup Nagari Koto Baru's sense of place. This research is exploratory research, which is conducted by examining the issues and potentials of Nagari Koto Baru in each component of the sense of place by looking at phenomena and literature studies. The research methodology used in this study is a qualitative method consisting of qualitative descriptive analysis methods, content analysis methods, frequency distribution methods, and mental map methods. This study involved resource persons from prominent figures in Nagari Koto Baru and involved respondents who are residents and visitors of the area. The results of this study indicate that the components that form Nagari Koto Baru's sense of place consist of physical setting, social setting, activity, and meaning. The four components work cooperatively to form a sense of place, but each provides a slightly different role in forming place identity, encouraging place attachment, and making place dependence in Nagari Koto Baru, so that if realized in a conservation program these four components need to be combined, in order to realize the sustainable preservation of Nagari Koto Baru.
