Coking coal is one of coal types that meets the physical and chemical parameters as a coke ingredient. Coke has an important role in smelting process with a blast furnace. Lately, the coke requirement for metallurgy industry in Indonesia is mostly supplied from abroad with high cost. This condition causes a serious problem on the economical situation of NPI smelter with blast furnace. Indonesia has a resource identified as coking coal which has been developed by several mining companies. However, the coking coal cost is unapproachable with a thermal coal cost due to parameter difference. Therefore, a cost preference for coking coal in Indonesia is necessary regarding the coking coal cost in the international market. Furthermore, the coking coal requirement on the nickel industry in Indonesia is expected to meet the country’s requirement and reduce the operational cost of NPI production with blast furnace.
