Summary: | Indonesia is a country that has a lot of natural resources, including natural fibers. One of the natural fibers found in Indonesia is water hyacinth. In the Ambarawa area, Semarang, there are several locations that are habitat for water hyacinth, including Rawa Pening and rice fields area in Banyubiru Ambarawa. The water hyacinth handicraft industry in Ambarawa has great potential to be exploited due to the availability of raw materials. The local community uses water hyacinth as a material to make various kinds of woven crafts. Compared to other products made by craftsmen in Ambarawa, bags are the products that have a high commercial value. Besides being used as a place to carry daily necessities, bags are also used to enhance the appearance of the wearer, so the demand for bags in the market are very high, especially for women. Currently, the consumption of Indonesian people for bag products made from water hyacinth is still less than bag products made from synthetic materials. This study aims to develop and create variations of water hyacinth woven bag product by exploring the structure and utilizing natural dyes of secang. |
