INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/62713 Nickel is a toxic and carcinogenic heavy metal that accumulated into water environment through anthropogenic and natural activities, which increase the nickel abundance in water. Nickel that accumulates above the standard quality of environment can endanger the health of both biota and humans, therefore, it is necessary to develop a sensitive, fast and simple analytical method. In this study, nickel(II) determination was developed using voltammetry with carbon paste electrode (CPE) modified by bismuth (Bi) and ion imprinted polymer (IIP) as an electrochemical sensor. Modification of carbon paste electrode with bismuth was carried out by mixing bismuth paste and carbon paste, continued with modification using ion imprinted polymer through electropolymerization with aniline as a monomer. Evaluation of peak currents showed that carbon paste electrode modified with bismuth and ion imprinted polymer (Ni-PANi/CPE-Bi) has a higher peak currents among the other electrodes, which is carbon paste electrode without modificator (CPE), bismuth modified carbon paste electrode (CPE-Bi), and carbon paste electrode modified with bismuth and polymer without ion imprinted (CPE- Bi/NIP). Optimization processes that have been carried out are optimization of bismuth composition, monomer of IIP, electropolymerization cycle, and pH of measurement solution. Optimization results showed that the optimum conditions for Ni(II) measurement using Ni-PANi/CPE-Bi are 3:4 bismuth composition with 0.2 M of monomer aniline for 10 cycles electropolymerization, and measurement solution of pH 5. Under optimum conditions, Ni-PANi/CPE-Bi provides good repeatability and reproducibility performance, good accuracy with 97.9% recovery, also good selectivity with less than 4.77% of error. The successful fabrication of Ni- PANi/CPE-Bi has a linear range at 0.01-1 µM with a detection limit of 0.00482 µM. Voltammetric determination of nickel(II) in river water with Ni-PANi/CPE-Bi was performed using differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) technique at 0.2-0.8 V and scan rate of 50 mV/second, voltammetric results showed no significant difference from measurement using atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) with a 95% confidence level. text
