PRELIMINARY STUDY ON THE USE OF LDPE, LLDPE AND PP PLASTIC WASTE AS AGGREGATES IN CONCRETE
Plastic production from year to year always increases in direct proportion to the amount of plastic waste generated in the world. Since 2019, COVID-19 has also caused a significant increase in plastic waste, especially single-use plastic types such as LDPE, LLDPE, PP and so on. Therefore, to redu...

Since 2019, COVID-19 has also caused a significant increase in plastic waste, especially single-use plastic types such as LDPE, LLDPE, PP and so on. Therefore, to reduce the generation of plastic waste in the environment, it can be done by using liquid waste as an aggregate in the manufacture of concrete. In this study, the types of plastic used were LDPE, LLDPE, and PP where the proportion of substitution of plastic aggregate to the aggregate sand used was 25% and 50%. The tests carried out were FTIR characterization of plastic pellets, X-Ray diffraction (XRD) characterization, density test, and compressive test of concrete samples. Based on the results of the FTIR characterization, it is known that the type of pellet used is in accordance with the type of plastic being reviewed. The test results showed that the concrete with the substitution proportion of 25% plastic aggregate had a higher compressive strength than the 50% substitution. In addition, concrete with LLDPE plastic aggregate has a higher compressive strength than LDPE and LLDPE aggregates where the compressive strength of LLDPE concrete samples reaches 31,4 MPa while LDPE concrete only reaches 26,3 MPa and PP concrete 30,4 MPa. Further research is needed to obtain the optimum strength of concrete with plastic aggregates. text |
