Description
Summary:Schizophrenia and schizophrenia spectrum disorder (SSD) are serious mental disorders that are covered under the National Health Insurance (Jaminan Kesehatan Nasional, JKN) program. Policymakers should understand the level of care utilization as a basis for assessing the achievement of JKN objectives. The objective of this study was to determine the utilization of healthcare services by schizophrenic patients and SSD patients who are also JKN participants, and to look at the relationship between the demographic characteristics and the utilization. This research is a quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach and analysis using secondary data, i.e., the second edition of the Social Health Insurance Administration Body (Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Sosial, BPJS) sample data. The dataset used in this study is the primary health facility (Fasilitas Kesehatan Tingkat Pertama, FKTP) dataset and the referral facility (Fasilitas Kesehatan Rujukan Tingkat Lanjut, FKRTL) dataset which is linked to the membership dataset. The diagnostic inclusion criteria used in this study were schizophrenia, schizotypal disorder, and delusions; classified into F20-F29 in ICD-10. Descriptive analysis was carried out to measure the frequency of health care utilization and the chi-square test was used to see the relationship of demographic character to the type of service used. The results showed that the frequency of visits for all types of healthcare services was predominant in the Java region with a proportion of 60.46% for outpatients and 44.81% for inpatients out of all visits nationally. Male patients had a higher utilization frequency both for inpatient and outpatient services. Patients aged 25 to 54 years had higher utilization frequency than those aged 55 and over or younger. Furthermore, sex, age, and health insurance type of patients with schizophrenia and SSD were related to the type of service used.
