Description
Summary:Indonesia is a country that rich in various types of spice (plants). Spices are parts of plants that are used as seasonings, flavor enhancers, fragrances, and food preservatives that are used on a limited basis (FAO, 2005). Spices are biological resources and national cultural wealth since a long time ago. Currently, the Indonesian people are enjoying technological and knowledge advancements, but not all of them are in line with the cultures that exist in the country. Many traditional cultures are increasingly eroded by the progress of the times, including spices. People are now starting to switch using instant spices or dry herbs for blending because they are considered faster and more practical (MARS Research Specialist, 2015: 1). The use of instant spice plants has the impact of people's ignorance of the original form, origin, and even how to distinguish these spices because they have been widely sold in instant form which are usually in the form of powder or paste. This also has an impact on children and young adolescents who are currently not familiar with the existing spices, some even do not know the appearance of these spices. The design of this Pop-Up Book Illustration aims to attract young teenagers to learn about the types of spice plants in Indonesia. The visual processing in this pop-up illustration book adapts to the interests and tendencies of young teenagers in Indonesia. Pop-up Book Illustration can be an effective and interactive learning media for students.
