Description
Summary:Actinobacteria are a promising producer of novel antibiotics. Unlike Streptomyces, the genus Nonomuraea belongs to the group of rare actinobacteria. Nonomuraea can be found in soil, marine habitats, extreme habitats, or as endophytes. In this review, we summarised the antibiotics produced by Nonomuraea, the latest developments on strategies used for the discovery of antibiotics as well as the prospects for isolation of antibiotics from this genus. From Nonomuraea there are a total of 32 types of secondary metabolites that have antimicrobial activity, ranging from antibiotic, antiviral, or antimalarial activity. To maximise the utilisation of Nonomuraea sp. as a source of antibiotics, selective isolation was carried out supported by genomic approaches. The genus Nonomuraea still presents with many opportunities for antibiotic discovery.
