Description
Summary:In determining the location of a modern observatory site, it is necessary to carry out site testing, which can be carried out in situ or by remote sensing using meteorological satellite data. The satellite data has great potential for various studies, ranging from weather observations and forecasts, climate monitoring, detection of water vapor and aerosol content, temperature variations and cloud formation, to fog detection. At the location where the Timau National Observatory was built, after conducting a field survey, it was discovered that fog appeared at certain times which needed to be studied carefully. This Final Project discusses the potential data generated by meteorological satellites, which will be used to detect fog at the Timau National Observatory site. Some of these include NASA's EOS satellites, namely Aqua and Terra satellites with their MODIS instruments and associated observational wavelengths, as well as Japan's Himawari satellite series. Finally, MODIS data from January to July 2020 was selected for the determination of fog characteristics on Mount Timau. The results will be compared with the previous study results.
