Description
Summary:The Paser language is one of the local languages still alive among native speakers of the Paser tribe in Paser Regency, East Kalimantan. The Paser language is not only used as a means of communication. Still, it is an essential part of the culture of the Paser community, such as ronggeng, the traditional ritual of the Belian ceremony. However, currently, speakers of the Paser language have experienced a significant decline due to several factors, one of which is the high number of immigrants making the Paser ethnic a minority. Currently, there are only 10% of the total population in Paser Regency. Another factor is the high crossbreeding between ethnic groups, so Indonesian is the primary language in the family environment. Efforts to preserve the Paser language are incorporated into elementary school subjects by the Paser district government. However, several obstacles are faced in learning the paser language, such as teaching unpublished textbooks. Besides that, students have difficulty understanding and memorizing the Paser language vocabulary delivered by the teacher orally, and in writing, conventional learning like this is considered less effective and ineffective. Interesting for students. On the other hand, students are interested in smartphones to play, watch movies, and so on. This is in line with the aim of this research to design an application that supports Paser language learning that can motivate student learning. The research method uses a design thinking approach that includes empathizing, defining, ideating, prototyping, and user testing. The application design uses the Audio-lingual Method (ALM) approach. This method focuses on repetition and memorization patterns. The ALM method as problemsolving in this research is the concept of repetition and memorization, which is adapted into the design of the Paser language application. The application test results show a high success rate with an average user achievement of 90%. The user can correctly answer 8-9 vocabularies of the 10 vocabularies tested in the game. And able to memorize new vocabulary fluently as much as 8 speeches out of 10 given languages. This application can be used by teaching as additional learning media in schools
