Traders in the textile center area of Cigondewah Kaler sell the clothing fasteners (a variety of textile fastener accessories), such as: zippers, webbing, buckles, shoelaces and others. Since the Covid-19 (Coronavirus Disease-19) pandemic has spread globally, the textile center area of Cigondewah Kaler has also been affected economically and socially. There was a slowdown in trade circulation which caused a decrease in the profits of traders, and the accumulation of goods in the shopping area which had the potential to become deadstock. Through a design study approach, efforts are made to find alternative solutions. The research stage begins with conducting interviews with traders and government at the Cigondewah Kaler Village to collect the necessary data related to research. Followed by the material experimentation with upcycling approach, using the weaving technique. After creating a sample of experimental results, in the form of textile samples and product samples that consisting of three product categories (interior products, fashion, and fashion accessories), testing was carried out using a questionnaire to the target market in this study. The target market is young urban adults aged 25-40 years who live in various big cities in Indonesia. Tests are carried out to determine the tendency of respondents' tastes, desires and needs related to product development. The processed results of the questionnaire data are then interpreted and applied to product development, which is then retested through product analysis and questionnaires to respondents. The research aims to increase the value of clothing fasteners material through an upcycling approach, so that it becomes an indirect solution for traders in the textile center area of Cigondewah Kaler, after being economically and socially affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. text
