| Summary: | Kampung Arab Empang is one of the historic areas in Bogor city. This area is known as Kampung Arab because Empang was chosen as the center of residence of Arabs in the Dutch colonial period. Kampung Arab Empang area has valuable historical assets and value due to its formation which began from the period of the Sunda Kingdom / Pakuan Pajajaran. Meanwhile, in the preservation process, it has several problems such as the Arab village's strong identity which is slowly fading and most of its historical heritage are intangible, which is difficult to describe on the map. The purpose of this study is to illustrate the distribution of historical and cultural asstets, as well as the physical boundaries of the Kampung Arab Empang area in Bogor City using the Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) approach. The first step in this approach is to conduct a study of the Empang region’s development at each period of development and classify the heritage assets. The next stage is to analyze the transformation of the region and assess the value of historical landscape elements that construct area of Kampung Arab Empang with its relevance to cultural assets. The final stage of this approach is to determine the physical boundaries of the area.
The results of this study show that the road corridors located in the Kampung Arab Empang neighborhood is a form of open space which has function as a public open space and socio-cultural function that can strengthen it’s identity. Cisadane River and Cipakancilan River are natural resource which have historical value and important for the living needs of the Arabs in Empang. On the other hand, the existence of sayyids in this area also has a significant influence for shaping the image of the Arab Village, because their residences are center of activitiesin every Islamic celebrations.
