Summary: | In this study, the synthesis of 1-decyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide [DMIm]Br ionic liquid will be carried out using the MAOS (Microwave-Assisted Organic Synthesis) method which is then applied as a solvent medium in the Diels-Alder reaction. The use of ionic liquids as a solvent medium because it has a relatively high solubility in organic and inorganic compounds. Another advantage of ionic liquids is that they are recyclable and environmentally friendly, so they can support the concept of green chemistry. Ionic liquid was synthesized by reacting 1-methylimidazole (0.0681 mol) with 1-bromodecane (0.0681 mol) using a domestic microwave (oven microwave merk SHARP) to produce the purified product with 86.42% yields. Furthermore, the synthesized [DMIm]Br was characterized by TLC, FTIR, and NMR. The Diels-Alder reaction was carried out on anthracene and maleic anhydride compounds. These two precursors were mixed with ionic liquid [DMIm]Br then refluxed for 1 hour. The product obtained is a yellowish white solid that subsequently purified using the recrystallization method. The purification results were white crystals with the yields of 61.76%, which then characterized by TLC, FTIR and NMR. This research is then used as learning material for high school students or its equivalents, especially in chemistry practicum. The output of this research is a chemistry practicum module for high school/equivalent students who obtained very decent criteria with an eligibility percentage of 83.4%. These results were obtained from
71 respondents of XII MIPA students of SMAN 1 Bogor, West Java.
