THE STUDY OF EROSION PROTECTION AT LEBIH BEACH GIANYAR DISTRICT, BALI PROVINCE

ABSTRACT: <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Erosion is defined as the backward of shoreline to wards the land from its original position. Erosion is caused by littoral sediment tranport along shoreline in wich sediment moves from one place to another. Littoral sediment transport occurs when incoming waves from an angle to wards normal line of shoreline. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> Lebih Beach shoreline, which is the study location, has a shoreline length of approximately 2 (two) Km. The wind is dominant to blow from the south in which the dominant wave is from the south also. In Lebih Beach shoreline, the sediment littoral occurring is 494.736,33 m3/year, leading to a decline of the shoreline. The sediment moves from south to north direction. So far, Lebih beach erosion protection handling has been carried out by Bali Province government by building groins concrete blocks. However it has not been able to overcome the erosion. In fact, groins constructed was derstrayed by strong current. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> With the study, the shoreline change due to erosion and its protection concept was analyzed by using Genesis programming, which yields the suggested activities as follows: constructing break water series in eroded areas besides the existing break water on Lebih Beach, thus the erosion can be overcome.
