Description
Summary:Dispersion occurs when waves of different wavelengths travel at different speeds. This caused a wave packet with mixed wavelengths to spread out in space. Dispersive equations have many applications in physics. In this article, we will discuss two dispersive differetial equations, the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation and a Fisher’s equation. Both equations will be analytically solved with modified simple equation method. We will also apply spectral methods in solving the KdV equation numerically.
