THE IMPROVEMENT OF READY SHAPE MOULDING WAREHOUSE IN PT PORLENA

PT Porlena is a refractory or heat proof material producing company. One of the departments in PT Porlena is the ready shape department which produces ready shape products according to consumer’s needs. Ready shape production started by mixing raw material which is called monolithic then mixed with water then poured into moulds. After the product is set, moulding will be opened and ready shape is finished. Ready shape moulding warehousing is ineffective. This condition makes finding the moulding difficult. The absence of SOP makes the moulding placed in the warehouse not ready for use. This impacted the increase of the cost due to purchasement of unfound moulding and lowering the productivity due to time needed to find a moulding. PT Porlena will implement visual management in both the warehouse and moulding itself to ease the finding of the moulding. SOP will also made to standardize the warehousing of ready shape moulding. Qualitative methods used by interviews and observations to identify the root causes of ineffective systems of ready shape moulding warehousing. Interviewees are operations manager and ready shape assistant manager. Fishbone diagram used to analyze the root causes. Four root causes found which contributes to ineffective warehousing of ready shape moulding which are no SOP, no visual management in the warehouse, no identification in mouldings and no standardization of moulding placement. Solution proposed to improve the ready shape moulding warehousing is the creation of SOP, Visual management in warehouse and mouldings and standardization of moulding placement. The first solution needed to be done is SOP creation, followed by identification implementation in warehouse and mouldings standardization of moulding placement and implementation of 5S.
