Siaga, Hendry Indonesia Theses COVID-19 Pandemic, Network Traffic Spikes, Network Management Evolution, Modern Network Management System INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/63598 The effects of COVID-19 are being felt around the world and are having a significant impact on the Telecom sub-sector. As increasing numbers of countries impose restrictions on movement, people are spending more time at home for work, study, and leisure, and using vastly higher amounts of data. Network usage is skyrocketing, with many Internet Service Providers “ISP” reporting large spikes. The latest survey conducted by Asosiasi Penyelenggara Jasa Internet (APJII) showed the number of Indonesian internet users rose 8.9% from 171.2 million in 2018 to 196.7 million in the second quarter of 2020. Tier 1 ISPs in Indonesia reported increases in data traffic of around 13 to 24 percent during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result of this situation, many tier 1 ISP’s in Indonesia struggled and needed to adjust their network capacity and improve the network resiliency to provide more stable services for their customers. In the past, these ISP’s were heavily relying on traditional network management systems and manual processes to help operate and plan the network. These traditional network management systems are limited in capabilities, very manual, and time-consuming. The inability to effectively monitor, operate and plan the network could lead to service disruptions hence impacting brand reputation, increasing customer churn, and hindering the organization’s ability to grow the business. This final project is focused on the innovation strategy on how Telco Hijau can address this business issue to improve productivity and efficiency which could ultimately lead to better network service quality and reliability for its customers. To solve the problem, this study aims to propose technological innovation to improve the network management process to Telco Hijau as one of the tier 1 ISP in Indonesia. The Management of Technological Innovation is used to analyze the whole business situation. Innovation Value Chain is used to analyze the technology innovation that has been implemented and to measure its effectiveness. Fishbone diagram is used as a tool for root cause analysis. User interviews are conducted for gathering business objectives and technical requirements information. Solution verification is conducted using guidelines from the Network Management Evolution. Based on Telco Hijau’s goals and requirements, three alternative modern network management system solutions were identified, analyzed, and compared. They are Blue Planet Route Optimization and Analysis (ROA), Nokia Network Service Platform (NSP), and Cisco WAN Automation Engine (WAE). After the analysis, it is concluded that the Blue Planet Route Optimization and Analysis (ROA) Explorer Suite solution will be the best option for Telco Hijau. This proposal has been received by Telco Hijau for their consideration for implementation. The implementation plan includes information about the step-by-step activities, roles and responsibilities of the stakeholders, human resources, and financial resources needed to deploy the new modern network management system. This serves as a guideline for the successful implementation of the solution. text |
