Description
Summary:Volcanic eruptions are a sort of natural disaster that can have a wide range of consequences. Tropical cyclones are the same way. In November 2017, the eruption of Mount Agung coincided with the acitivity of Tropical Cyclone Cempaka. The dispersal of volcanic ash caused by eruptions may be affected by these tropical cyclones. To investigate the impact of this phenomena, FALL3D was used to simulate the dispersion of volcanic ash in two alternative scenarios, without tropical cyclones and with Tropical Cyclones Cempaka. Using the ECMWF Reanalysis ERA5, a meteorological dataset was obtained. The time under conditions without the influence of tropical cyclones was determined by analyzing the distribution of zonal and meridional winds in the research area. Calculating the angle and probability of the direction of distribution between each simulation is used to compare simulation results. The results revealed that tropical cyclone Cempaka had an impact on the distribution of volcanic ash in both directions and the distribution area, with the distribution of volcanic ash following the location of Tropical Cyclone Cempaka in the southwest, and if Tropical Cyclone Cempaka occurred, the direction of ash distribution are west.
