Description
Summary:The Musi River plays an essential role in the history and development of Palembang City. Historically, the river has been used for settlement, trade, and transportation activities. These activities form a culture that is related and very closely related to people's lives; riparian culture. However, with the rapid growth of land-oriented cities, the riparian culture began to be faded. People have shifted their activities from water to land. This study aims to capture the meaning of riparian culture, which includes the 10 Ulu Market area, a market in a multi-ethnic commercial area with significant riparian architectural characteristics, and to look at the 10 Ulu Market from the perspective of riparian architecture by a riparian architectural approach. This study used qualitative methods through the framework of riparian architecture to explore the diversity of riparian culture in river borders. The study showed that the increasing of riparian history value, reversion of the identity, local riparian character, and addition of recreational potency of the area could maintain the characteristics of riparian culture in this modern era.
