Osteoporosis is a worldwide major clinical problem, increasingly prevalent with the aging population. The age-related complex medical problems are common, causing elderly are prone to drug related problems which effect the therapeutic outcome. The study aims to identify and assess the incidence of potential drug-related problems in geriatric patients with osteoporosis with or without the disease comorbid. A cross-sectional, retrospective study using secondary data from medical record from January 2018 - December 2020 was conducted. Sampling by using the method of non probability sampling technique that is purposive sampling, with a total sample of 100 patients. The study involved 100 geriatric patients using purposive sampling technique. Inclusion criteria were aged> 60 years, outpatients, diagnosed as osteoporosis with or without comorbid. Exclusion criteria was patients with incomplete or illegible medical record. Classification of DRPs was based on Pharmaceutical Care Network Europe (PCNE) version 9.1. The most frequent clinical DRPs were potential were as follows : 43 cases (39.09%) drug interactions, 29 cases (26.36%) polypharmaceuticals, 9 cases (8.18%) doses of subtherapy, 9 cases (8.18%) less frequency of drug administration, 6 cases (5.45%) indications of not being treated, 5 cases (4.55%) drug selection not within guidelines, 5 cases (4.55%) length of treatment too short, 3 cases (2.73%) administration of drugs without indications, and 1 case (0.91 %) duplication of drugs. Total incidence of DRPs was 58 %. The most common drug for DRPs is calcium. Bivariate analysis shows that disease diagnosis and the number of drugs significantly increased the incidence of DRPs in patients (p < 0.05). Multivariate analysis using logistic regression shows that the number of drugs could significantly affect the incidence of DRPs in patients (p < 0.05). text |
