Description
Summary:Abstract :

Formulation of microemulsions with combination of virgin coconut oil and dl-alpha tocopherol acetate to improve its antioxidant activity had been done. Microemulsion was prepared using dl-alpha tocopherol acetate, virgin coconut oil, Cremophor ELP as emulgator, and ethanol 95% as cosurfactant. The stability of the microemulsion was evaluated by freeze thaw, pH, and viscosity of the preparations were measured during the storage for eight weeks. The antioxidant activity microemulsion was evaluated following in vitro evaluation using the inhibition of free radical 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH). The Antioxidant activities was determinated by decreasing absorbancy of DPPH with spectrophotometer. The best formula of microemulsion was composed of virgin coconut oil 6%, dl-alpha tocopherol acetate 1%, Cremophor ELP 36%, with a ratio of Cremophor ELP and ethanol (3:1). Inhibition of DPPH with concentration of dl-alpha tocopherol acetate at 1000 ppm in microemulsion combination of dl-alpha tocopherol acetate and virgin coconut oil was 13.71+/-0.42 %; microemulsion of dl-alpha tocopherol acetate was 5.23+/-0.39 %; solution of dl-alpha tocopherol acetate was 9.64+/-0.77 %. The microemulsion of dl-alpha tocopherol acetate in combination with virgin coconut oil had higher activities than without virgin coconut oil.
