INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/64039 This research is motivated by the development of evolutionary resilience, which triggers the massive use of this concept in various disciplines. Evolutionary resilience emphasizes change, adaptation, and transformation in response to disturbances, known as socio-ecological resilience, the core of transformative potential. Meanwhile, transformative resilience focuses on efforts to use shocks as opportunities for change. Both concepts have relevance to the main focus of catalyzing renewal, transformation, and innovation. However, research on resilience still focuses on urban areas, even though rural areas have socioecological vulnerabilities and populations at risk of disaster, especially coastal villages with their complexities. There has been progressed in operationalizing socio-ecological resilience, but studying the capacity of regimes in socio-ecological systems within the framework has not been carried out, especially in rural coastal case studies. In line with that, transformative resilience still focuses on definitions and characteristics, while the efforts to see the evolutionary trajectory of transformation as the core of transformative resilience have not been done much. Furthermore, there is no clear relationship between transformation, resilience, and adaptive capacity. This study aims to identify the transformation process of coastal village communities to build transformative resilience in the face of disasters. The theoretical basis of this research is built on the concept of socio-ecological resilience, which includes the system of panarchy, transformative resilience, and resilience capacity. This research used a qualitative approach with a double case study of coastal villages in Pabean Udik Village and Dadap Village, Indramayu Regency. Data collection methods were carried out through interviews, observations, and reviews of various literature, while the analysis qualitatively used pattern matching, comparative, and explanation building techniques. This research produces new insights into the relationship of transformation, capacity, and resilience and brings a new conceptual framework for transformative resilience. The analysis results show that the transformation process can occur triggered by various shocks in natural, non-natural, and social disasters. Efforts to build transformative resilience are affected by the transformation phase, theiv diversity and interdependence of capacities, and the intensity of capacity utilization. Exploration of the various capacities utilized as transformative capacity in the ideal period used at each stage of the transformation process in responding to shocks will bring a perfect regime that indicates the community has reached a resilient condition, known as better condition aftershocks. Research can provide recommendations for regional development, especially in developing coastal village community resilience. The discussion of this research still has not paid attention to separate analyses based on cross-scale focus, has not reviewed the conditions of opportunity as the main trigger of the transformation process, and has not seen predictions of future resilience due to the transformation process. Therefore, further research related to these topics can be carried out in the future. text |

This research is motivated by the development of evolutionary resilience, which
triggers the massive use of this concept in various disciplines. Evolutionary
resilience emphasizes change, adaptation, and transformation in response to
disturbances, known as socio-ecological resilience, the core of transformative
potential. Meanwhile, transformative resilience focuses on efforts to use shocks as
opportunities for change. Both concepts have relevance to the main focus of
catalyzing renewal, transformation, and innovation. However, research on
resilience still focuses on urban areas, even though rural areas have socioecological vulnerabilities and populations at risk of disaster, especially coastal
villages with their complexities. There has been progressed in operationalizing
socio-ecological resilience, but studying the capacity of regimes in socio-ecological
systems within the framework has not been carried out, especially in rural coastal
case studies. In line with that, transformative resilience still focuses on definitions
and characteristics, while the efforts to see the evolutionary trajectory of
transformation as the core of transformative resilience have not been done much.
Furthermore, there is no clear relationship between transformation, resilience, and
adaptive capacity. This study aims to identify the transformation process of coastal
village communities to build transformative resilience in the face of disasters. The
theoretical basis of this research is built on the concept of socio-ecological
resilience, which includes the system of panarchy, transformative resilience, and
resilience capacity. This research used a qualitative approach with a double case
study of coastal villages in Pabean Udik Village and Dadap Village, Indramayu
Regency. Data collection methods were carried out through interviews,
observations, and reviews of various literature, while the analysis qualitatively
used pattern matching, comparative, and explanation building techniques.
This research produces new insights into the relationship of transformation,
capacity, and resilience and brings a new conceptual framework for transformative
resilience. The analysis results show that the transformation process can occur
triggered by various shocks in natural, non-natural, and social disasters. Efforts to
build transformative resilience are affected by the transformation phase, theiv
diversity and interdependence of capacities, and the intensity of capacity
utilization. Exploration of the various capacities utilized as transformative capacity
in the ideal period used at each stage of the transformation process in responding
to shocks will bring a perfect regime that indicates the community has reached a
resilient condition, known as better condition aftershocks. Research can provide
recommendations for regional development, especially in developing coastal
village community resilience. The discussion of this research still has not paid
attention to separate analyses based on cross-scale focus, has not reviewed the
conditions of opportunity as the main trigger of the transformation process, and
has not seen predictions of future resilience due to the transformation process.
Therefore, further research related to these topics can be carried out in the future. |
