Description
Summary:Coal in Indonesia has many benefits such as steam power plants, cement factories, and the steel industry. So far, the conventional use of coal is not environmentally friendly. The gasification method is one of the more environmentally friendly uses of coal. Coal gasification is included in clean coal technology because coal does not burn directly and exhaust gas emissions can be minimized in the atmosphere. A gasification reactivity test needs to be carried out to find out how well the gasification process occurs in producing useful gas products. This test was assessed using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). This study deals with the thermal characteristics of coal during pyrolysis and gasification. This study used two coal samples from Central Teweh, Central Kalimantan and Tanjung, South Kalimantan. The basic characteristics of coal from both samples were tested by proximate analysis, ultimate analysis, and calorific value. In the gasification reactivity test, argon (inert) and limited O2 are used as reactants in the gasification process. The sample from Teweh Tengah, Central Kalimantan is included in the high-rank coal, namely high-volatile A bituminous, while the sample from Tanjung, South Kalimantan is included in the low-rank coal, namely Subbituminous B. The TGA results show very different results. mass loss of both samples. The difference is caused by the significant difference in coal characteristics of the two samples. Low-rank coals are relatively more reactive to gasification. The lower the rank of the coal, the faster it will react during gasification.
