Summary: | The Indonesian automation market is expected to grow because of the demand of automation devices. One of such devices that are commonly used is PLC. PLC is a computer device for controlling industrial processes. The PLC is usually programmed in ladder diagram language. Since PLC and ladder diagram are an important aspect in the industries and automation, both are taught to the Mechanical Engineering Students of ITB, on the practicum of Mechatronics subject. However, there are obstacles in the practicum, such as the risk of damaging the PLC because of incorrect installation or being operated by students who are beginners. This final project offers a solution: affordable and easily manufactured Arduino-Based PLC.
The final project starts with hardware and software design. The hardware design consists of optical isolation system design for Arduino, while the software design focuses on editing and processing of the ladder diagram and uploading the ladder diagram logic to Arduino. After designing process, the PLC is manufactured. The PLC is tested using several sensors and actuators, including pneumatic actuator.
The PLC can operate its desired function, such as Boolean logic, internal relay, set coil, reset coil, comparative, mathematical operation, timer on, timer off, timer on retentive, counter up dan counter down. There are some drawbacks, which are impractical PLC power supply system, lower output current rating than PLC in general, the analog input is not optically isolated and inaccuracy on the timers. |
