Arsenic in ground water commonly presents in two species, they are As(III) and As(V). As(III) is a more toxic species than As(V). Most of arsenic removal methods use oxidation technic, that is As(III) to As(V), by using kinds of chemical materials as oxidator. In this experiment, oxidation As(III) to As(V) method is used by using superoxide which is produced from radiation of Fe(III)citrid complex by UV light. As(V) which is produced by that reaction can be precipitated together with Fe(OH)3. The experiment is approached by radiating UV lamp 220 V on to solution that contains 0.5 ppm arsenic, iron, and citrid acid. Arsenic solution is conditioned to four kinds of pH condition, they are 5, 6,7, and 8. Sample is taken every 2, 4, and 8 hours. To measure the concentration of arsenic that is still left in solution, uv-vis spectrometer is used. The result shows that there is a removal of arsenic in range of 30%-90% from the initial concentration, the most significant removal presents in pH 7. By this experiment, it is finally discovered that removing arsenic in water can be obtained by combining the two processes, they are: oxidating As(III) to As(V), and precipitating of Fe. text
