This number is always increasing every year, even though programs, regulations, or other ideas has been done by governments to raise people’s awareness and participation in reducing plastic waste, however it did not change the data to decrease. Many countries seem to have difficulties in dealing with this issue. Other than that, World Bank also stated that the wealthier the citizen, caused the more plastics being produced in the country. In solving this issues, culture and education can be the solution by analyzing the behavior and educate people, as the more they get educated, the closer their knowledge and concern to environment. All of these aspects (culture, education, country's wealth, and government's role) are having strong relations to environmental issues, which can be potential factors that can reduce plastic waste. Therefore, the objective of this research is to identify the factors that can affect the amount of plastic waste and analyze the influence of this factors on the number of plastic waste in several countries. The factors that will be analyzed are Hofstede’s national culture dimension (Power Distance, Collectivism and Individualism, Masculinity and Femininity, Uncertainty Avoidance, Long-term Orientation and Short-term Orientation, Indulgence and Restraint), Wealth per Capita, Education, and Government’s Plan and Policy on Sustainable Consumption. This study is using secondary data to collect global data in the year of 2018 from 66 countries in the world, and analyze the data using Multiple Linear Regression method. The result indicates that Collectivism and Individualism is significantly correlated to the amount of plastic waste. The finding of this research is expected to minimize the amount of plastic waste by the involvement of government in each country. text |
