Summary: | The visual improvement of slum settlements in urban areas is a new breakthrough in increasing public awareness of sanitation management which is a capital to foster community participation to ensure the sustainability of the implemented programs. The city of Bandung has two colorful villages, namely Kampung Pelangi 200 and Kampung Cibunut, which differ in program quality even though they are implemented in the same city and the same funding source. This study identified the impact from visual improvement program of slums to the sanitation management intention and behavior of the Kampung Cibunut community using the Theory of Planned Behavior, then compared it with Kampung Pelangi 200, with the aim of analyzing the differences in the impact of the program and the key factors for successful program implementation. The research used correlational design with Likert scale questionnaire. The results showed that the visual improvement had a significant correlation with the intention to treat domestic wastewater, the intention and behavior to treat organic waste at home in Kampung Cibunut. According to media attention, number of visits, additional income from village tourism objects and local government attention, the visual improvement program in Kampung Cibunut has a better quality than Kampung Pelangi 200. The implementation of the visual improvement program will have better quality if it is carried out in areas with: strategic locations, demographic conditions of the community (high number of people of productive age, high school education level, earning above the Provincial Minimum Wage and having land and house ownership certificates), there is an active participation from external stakeholders (in the form of education, skill improvement, and tourism promotion), the similarity of internal and external program objectives and the inclusion of the program's internal objectives |
