Not only about the affecting emotional state, but sometimes it influences someone’s performance. Millenials as college students are no exception. In several prestigious universities as the one discussed in this paper, the burden that producing stress during their college is not just a matter of GPA or the difficulty of lecturing materials and assignments, but also the existence of indirect competition which forces each student to develop their personal growth in other activities, not forget to mention personal problems and stressors. In this research, the author focused on finding the correlation between stress coping strategies and their educational performance in terms of GPA movements between semesters. In-depth interviews conducted to find the difference between students who are able to maintain their increase in GPA and the ones who experienced declining academic performance. The samples were purposely chosen equally between those two categories from the population of SBMITB students in the class of 2020. After the data gathered, coded, themed, and analyzed, the significant differences are located on the participant’s capability to adapt and their stress coping strategies. Students categorized as GPA rise are showing great adaptability towards college activities and capable of finding balance for other activities when the GPA drop students failed to do so and blaming their lack of time and lessons understanding. Students with inclining GPA are also using active stress coping strategies that focus on eliminating the source of stress compared to GPA drop students who are just focusing on their emotional focused coping stress which resulted in avoidance stress coping strategies text |
