Summary:Character design is one type of intellectual property in Indonesia's rapidly growing creative industry. Of the various ways to grow intellectual property, virtual YouTubers are one of the alternatives that have made a lot of progress in the market. The function of personal branding and interaction that can be built with the audience is the potential to deepen the theme of traditional Indonesian culture. The existing works of Indonesia's creative industries are still very much influenced by popular culture outside Indonesia so the younger generation is more interested in cultural traditions outside Indonesia. One of the Indonesian traditions that are under threat is ulos because its application to the creative industry is not yet strong. The solution to this problem is to adapt ulos through the ATUMICS method and character design theory into a YouTuber virtual character design that can compete in the international market and revive interest among young adults. Changes in cultural artifacts have rules so as not to damage existing traditions. On the other hand, changes must be adapted to the development of today's young adults. The data obtained through literature studies, interviews, observations, and surveys are used as an empathy map for character design with a traditional cultural approach. After the transformation process, the virtual YouTuber character design can be applied to YouTube live streaming media for content creation that can contain the topic of traditional Indonesian culture. In the end, adapting traditional culture such as ulos can attract the attention of young people in the form of virtual YouTubers and increase the awareness of Indonesian people to pay more attention to its traditional culture.
