Summary: | Coiled tubing drilling is one of drilling technology that is widely used to make drilling process more efficient. Coiled tubing is a series of continuous pipe without joint that rolled up inside the reel. The advantages of coiled tubing compared to drillpipe are flexible, faster tripping time, and live well intervention. Even though there are some disadvantages include small diameter and fatigue of coiled tubing.
One of technical aspect that must be considered in coiled tubing drilling is drillstring design. Coiled tubing drilling drillstring design aims to determine diameter, thickness, and weight of coiled tubing for drilling operation. This design is limited by five factors: fatigue life, collapse pressure, buckling load, drag force, and driving force.
In reality, not all coiled tubing used in operation is new, we have considered the factors of lifetime consumption in performing operations with coiled tubing. In this final assignment we will see how the influence of fatigue life and collapse pressure for coiled tubing drilling drillstring design. Case study and sensitivity has been performed to determine the most influence factors on both parameters. It also has been investigated how those parameters influence for the drillstring design.
From the results of this study, the factors that affect fatigue life are internal pressure, diameter of the coiled tubing, and diameter of the reel. As for the collapse pressure are internal pressure, ovality, and axial tensile force. As Coiled tubing fatigue decreases by 30%, lateral section length decreases approximately 10% and reduce collapse pressure value by 70% of initial collapse pressure. |
