Carbenicillin is widely used in genetic transformation protocols as sterilitation agent to eliminated Agrobacterium from media cultures when its presence no longer required. The purpose of this study was to evaluate carbenicillin effect to axillary shoots of cotyledon nodes. As a preliminary test, the concentrations of plant growth regulators have to optimatize whereas two kinds of cytokinins have been choosen [BAP (2,2 uM and 4,4 uM) and kinetin (2,3 uM and 4,6 uM)]. Experimental results showed that axillary shoots growth was effective in media contained 2,2 uM BAP and 2,3 uM kinetin with a mean production of 2,85 +/- 1,06 nodes and 36,00 +/- 2,23 mm shoot length within 4 weeks time. Furthermore, this combination of cytokinins was used in media cultures to investigated the effect of carbenicillin to the explant. Experimental results showed that nodes growth and shoot length tended to decrease with carbenicillin added to the medium cultures. However, we observed a significantly enhancement of shoot length by carbenicillin concentration of 40 mg/L. This investigation disclosed that carbenicillin has hormone-like in plant cultures. <br /> text
